IfADo in orange - A sign against violence towards women

For 16 days, the IfADo shines in orange. This year, IfADo is once again taking part in UN Women's "Orange the World" campaign. The aim is to draw attention to the high number of cases of violence against women. The project in Dortmund was initiated by the two local clubs of the international women's rights organization ZONTA.

IfADo, lit up in orange

In a survey conducted by the Saxon Ministry of Justice, 9 out of 10 women stated they had been sexually assaulted before. According to the BKA statistics for domestic violence 2022, there were 157,550 documented cases of relationship violence in Germany last year. In 80% of cases, the victim was female. Overall, there has been an increase in documented cases over the last five years. Every third day, a man kills his (ex-)partner.

A very visible NO

The "Orange the World" campaign is therefore intended to be a clear "No" to violence against women. Since last Saturday (25.11.), the International Day of Action against Violence against Women and Girls, orange benches, posters, banners and illuminated buildings in Dortmund have been drawing attention to this "No". The IfADo will therefore also be illuminated in orange during this period. The campaign ends on Human Rights Day (10.12).
