Science with humor - Science Slam 2023

At the first Science Slam at Projektor Dortmund, four IfADo scientists presented their research. Laura-Isabelle Klatt started off by telling the audience about the bouncer in the brain that decides whether what we hear is actually processed. Hannah Schade talked about her relationship to science and the problems with working conditions in the academic system. Zhwan Mahmoud explained what happens when Barbie gets breast cancer and what is true about Ken's claim that science is withholding cures for cancer (nothing!). Marie Beaupain closed the show, explaining why she gives out electric shocks full-time and what she therefore has in common with a Pikachu. The winner was decided by the audience with the volume of applause, of course accurately determined with a decibel meter. Marie Beaupain won by a narrow margin.
