presentation of the membership certificate

The Leopoldina provides independent policy advice on social issues based on scientific findings and points out options for action. It is the academy with the most members in Germany. Together with seven other new members of the class „Humanities, Social and Behavioural Sciences“, Michael Nitsche now supports the Leopoldina in advising and representing German science abroad.

Michael Nitsche has been working at IfADo since 2015, conducting research on methods of non-invasive brain stimulation and in the field of cognitive neuroscience, among other things. He originally studied psychology in Göttingen and medicine at the Georg-August University. In 2006, he habilitated in the field of neurology, and subsequently worked as head and senior physician of neurophysiology at the University Medical Center Göttingen until 2015. An overview of his research work can be found here.

Membership of the Leopoldina is a great honour for researchers worldwide, and its admission is decided in a multi-stage process. Currently, the national academy of sciences has over 1,600 members from more than 30 countries, and 178 members have received the Nobel Prize since its foundation. (Source: https://www.leopoldina.org/10-jahre-nationalakademie/zahlen-und-fakten/) Only about 50 new members are admitted each year.

Further information on the award ceremony can be found here.
