State parliament member Volkan Baran visits IfADo

Volkan Baran, member of the Dortmund state parliament, visited IfADo together with Jens Peick, member of the Dortmund federal parliament, to learn about the institute’s research activities. Prof. Dr. Hengstler, head of the Department of Toxicology, gave – supported by researchers – insights into current issues the institute is dealing with.

Member of the Landtag Volkan Baran

Not only is research being done, for example, on how high the lead contamination in soils is or the toxic load in food, but also on how poor nutrition affects the human organism and how high the concentration of chemicals is at the workplace. There have been many changes in the world of work in recent years: Home office and digitalisation have become a matter of course for many people. The neuroscientific area of the Institute is therefore also studying the consequences of these developments on the human organism, e.g. during sleep. Volkan Baran: „The findings obtained here make an important contribution to occupational safety.“ The visit to the Leibniz Research Centre for Working Environments and Human Factors Research at TU Dortmund not only provided interesting insights into research, but also showed how important knowledge transfer and scientific communication are. Volkan Baran: „The visit made it clear that Dortmund deserves to be called the capital of labour science.“
