Leibniz Research Alliances Get an Extension
Through Leibniz Research Alliances, the Leibniz Association strengthens supraregional, interdisciplinary collaboration among Leibniz Institutes on major issues of societal relevance. The two networks, whose funding has now been extended - “Resilient Ageing” and “Advanced Materials Safety” - address two pressing issues for the future: how people can continue to participate healthily in social life well into old age in the face of demographic change, and how new high-performance materials can be used safely and sustainably. The combined funding budget for the two consortia approved for continuation totals 2.4 million euros over a four-year period. The IfADo is an active member of both research alliances.
The Leibniz Research Alliance “Resilient Ageing” is led by the Leibniz Institute on Aging - Fritz Lipmann Institute in Jena and the Leibniz Institute for Resilience Research in Mainz. In the context of demographic change and growing social inequality, the pressing question arises: How can people continue to participate healthily in social life well into old age? Fourteen Leibniz Institutes are working on this question within the network. Their interdisciplinary research combines expertise in biology, environmental sciences, medicine, and the social sciences.
The Leibniz Research Alliance “Advanced Materials Safety” is led by the Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research in Dresden. The goal is to ensure the safety and sustainability of highly advanced new materials throughout their entire life cycle - from design to degradation. At the same time, innovative formats for knowledge dissemination are intended to increase acceptance of these new materials. To this end, the twelve Leibniz Institutes participating in the network combine expertise in materials science, biology and toxicology, computer science, educational science, and science communication.
