Jens Niemann wins first place at the Science Slam with his research on natural killer cells
At the Science Slam of the Digital Week Dortmund, Jens Niemann, researcher in the Immunophysiology group, gave a presentation on natural killer cells (NK cells) and won first place.
In his talk “Serial Killers, and how they save lives,” Niemann explained the role of NK cells, which are part of the immune system and can recognize and destroy virus-infected or abnormal cells. The so-called “serial killers” among NK cells can eliminate several diseased cells in succession - a mechanism that could open up new possibilities in cancer research and treatment.
The Science Slam was part of the opening event of the Digital Week Dortmund, which offered a wide range of insights into future digital topics from various fields through discussions, presentations, and interactive formats. In his slam, Niemann therefore also emphasized the role of digitalization and the importance of digital technologies in modern research.
