Hearing in virtual spaces – project AUDICTIVE is extended
The AUDICTIVE project has been extended for three further years. The follow-up proposal for the DFG-funded project has been approved, meaning that the researchers can now start phase 2 of the project.

Phase 1 (2021 - 2024) investigated the perception of static sound sources in real and virtual spaces.
In phase 2, researchers are going to focus on moving sound sources. The background to this is working with robots in the modern working world. Moving robots can be a safety risk. Especially when they are not in the human field of vision. Therefore, good perception and a precise understanding of moving objects in space are important. Virtual rooms offer the opportunity to simulate the working environment and to test and evaluate safe and efficient work processes.
The project is part of the priority program “SPP2236, AUDICTIVE” (Auditory Cognition in Interactive Virtual Environments), in which various research institutions from all over Germany are involved, including the Ergonomics Department of the Leibniz Research centre for Working Environment in Dortmund. The perception and processing of sounds in virtual environments is being investigated in three categories (acoustics, cognitive psychology and VR/computer science).
