Bright sign against violence towards women - IfADo takes part in ‘Orange Your City’
For the next 15 days, the IfADo shines in orange. This year, IfADo is once again taking part in UN Women's "Orange the World" campaign. The aim is to draw attention to the high number of cases of violence against women. The project in Dortmund was initiated by the two local clubs of the international women's rights organization ZONTA.
According to a recent UniSAFE study, female employees (44%) and students (34%) in academia are very strongly affected by sexual harassment compared to male employees (24%) and students (21%). People with a disability or chronic illness, non-binary people or non-heterosexual people are disproportionately affected by sexualised and gender-based violence overall.
The BMBF has therefore commissioned an expert report that examines aspects of intersectionality in the context of sexualised violence in the German academic landscape. The expertise was compiled by the GESIS Competence Centre for Women in Science and Research (CEWS). The result is available here.
A very visible NO
The "Orange the World" campaign is therefore intended to be a clear "No" to violence against women. Since today's International Day of Action against Violence against Women and Girls, orange benches, posters, banners and illuminated buildings in Dortmund have been drawing attention to this "No". The IfADo will therefore also be illuminated in orange during this period. The campaign ends on Human Rights Day (10.12).
