Liver lobule regenerating after intoxication with CCl4:
The simulation shows a six days process. An inner fraction of hepatocytes is destroyed by CCl4, because only these cells express CYP2E1 which metabolically activates CCl4. Subsequently some of the surviving hepatocytes proliferate, indicated by dark colour and the dead cell area is closed. The model has been established from confocal laser scans of mouse livers.
